Digital images have become a fact of everyday life and have made their way into the courtroom and media. The problem is that digital images, unlike film, are easily manipulated and can be changed to reflect a scene that didn't really happen. This has caused concerns in law enforcement and the photography world such as photojournalism. There are cases where a gun was removed from a picture in a murder case to a photojournalist combining pictures to show an event that did not really happen.

In courts around the world, defense attorneys are taking this inherent benefit of digital imagery and using it to create doubt in the mind of jurors that the evidence is real. What is needed is a way to capture crime scene and world events photographs in such a way that the images from the camera are protected, encrypted and made inaccessible until they are needed for publishing or prosecution.

The Stealth™ Image Encoder is just that device. The image encoder captures images directly from the camera at the time they are taken and stores them on an external device (like an iPod) in a encrypted file that has been verified as to what time the picture was taken, under what conditions and at what time. This information is also stored in an encrypted file. Once back at your computer, the syncing and transfer software validate the images for tampering and register the image data in a secure repository. The images are then de-crypted and moved to the computer.
